Questions and Answers

What exactly is a Brazilian Bikini Wax?

A Brazilian Bikini Wax in essentially a more extreme version of a bikini wax, Instead of simply removing the hair that would be seen while in a swimsuit, the hair is removed from the pubic region (including the labia and bottom). To some people it means removing all the hair from the bikini areas, and to others it means removing everything but a strip in the front.

Will I be embarrassed?

Keep in mind, you are with a professional and they are not checking you out. They aren’t judging you. You aren’t the hairiest person they’ve seem . The whole experience is rather clinical. A trained, licensed esthetician wearing gloves will quickly and professionally remove unwanted hair.

Will the Brazilian Bikini Wax Hurt?

The million dollar question. Everyone have different types of hair, skin and pain threshold. You should expect to experience some discomfort, to many women that momentary discomfort is so worth it. Hello soft, smooth skin. Goodbye razor burn, ingrown hairs and of course, that lovely post shave itching. However, previous shaving history, menstrual cycle, medication and fatigues can also influence your sensitivity level. Even more importantly, the quality of wax used the experience and skill of your therapist. The classic beauty rule “no pain, no gain” has officially moved down south to the nether –regions of the body, compliments of Brazilian waxing.

Why Should I have a Brazilian Bikini Wax?

It allows women to comfortably wear revealing swimwear and lingerie; it has an air of excitement about it. It removes pubic hair as a bacteria and smell source. You will also be clean from 3 to 4 weeks, no more hassle in shaving, and your skin will be nice and smooth.

Can I get a Brazilian Bikini Wax if I am pregnant?

Yes, however, please get your doctor’s permission. Just like waxing when you are menstruation, being pregnant will leave you more sensitive during and after your wax. It is also more convenient for us to do it for you, than for you to do it yourself.

How long does a Brazilian Bikini Wax take?

The waxing itself doesn’t take very long. In fact, getting unchanged and relaxing for a minute or two can sometimes take as long as the wax. Generally a Brazilian wax will take between 20 and 30 minutes for regular customers and slightly longer for first timers.

What to expect of a Brazilian Bikini Wax

Before:

Hygiene is a Must. If you have morning appointment we recommend showering beforehand. Please arrive clean for your appointment. If possible wash you bikini area shortly before you appointment. There are personal wipes available if required . Women should avoid waxing during the three days prior to and the first three days of their period; the skin is more sensitive at this time. If you are menstruation, you can still receive a Brazilian Wax, but please wear a tampon.

The ideal length of hair to wax is approx 1cm. If you shaved the bikini area it is necessary to wait between 2-3 weeks before coming to get waxed, otherwise it will be to short and we wont be able to wax you.

If your hair is much longer our waxing specialists can do this for you if it’s required.

Expect a little irritation, especially around the face where the skin is more sensitive(we recommend neosporin or A+D to relieve the irritation). If you get waxed regularly, your skin will become accustomed and you should not have the irritation. You should avoid making a wax appointment if you have sunburn, rashes, wounds, or open skin. Also please avoid putting any lotions or oils on the skin the day of the waxing appointment because the wax will not settle on your skin making it difficult for the aestheticism to pull out the hair.

What do I wear?

Most spas and salon will provide disposable underwear, however it is necessary to keep your underwear on to better protect you and to make you more comfortable . We recommend that you wear some old and comfortable pair of cotton panties, no boy short.

During:

A true Brazilian Bikini Wax removes the hair from the pubic line, over the labia and through to the back area, some people fell uncomfortable with having backside area waxed, so we will ask you before waxing there. To begin the hair is snipped with scissor if necessary, then we dust the area with powder, and wax is applied little at a time. The wax used for this procedure is no-strip wax, meaning it’s applied to the hair to be removed, it “shrink-wrap” around the hairs, and is pulled off after it dries. Relaxing is important as it causes less pain and helps to remove hair root easier.

After:

How long does the results last?

After your wax the results can last 3 to 6 weeks depending on you personal hair growth rate. Warmer weather tends to encourage faster hair growth rates. In most cases, you will see minimal re-growth during the first 3 weeks, with a noticeable increase there after. Some areas may grow quicker than other; continued waxing encourages slower, sparse hair re-growth. And the more frequent you wax, the less painful it becomes.

How often should I need to be waxed?

After care is very important and our therapists will make recommendations of how to maintain the Brazilian, and at what stage to return to the salon for your next treatment. Some clients come within 2 to 3 weeks but we recommend that you come in around every 4-5 weeks.

Why do I get ingrown hair?

Ingrown hair can be caused by numerous reasons such as wearing tight clothing, not exfoliating regularly and pores being infected with bacteria. They can be prevented by regular exfoliation, antiseptic washes and the use of lotions such as PFB which have active ingredients that helps prevent ingrown hairs.

After Care Check List:

  • Avoid sun exposure, deodorant, hot showers, chlorinated pools, solarium, spa’s and sauna for 48 hours.
  • Use and exfoliating glove after 2 days to minimize ingrown hairs
  • Avoid tight garments after waxing
  • Apply anti-histamine cream if necessary
  • Moisturize daily

Understanding Waxing

Waxing is a form of EPILATION; this means that the hair is removed below the surface of the skin. The advantage of epilation over depilation (hair removed at the skin line-shaving etc.) is that it will take longer for the hair to grow back. Also if epilation is performed repeatedly on the same area over a prolonged period of time, the quantity of hair will be permanently reduced. Other epilation methods to waxing include; tweezing, laser, IPL and electrolysis.

Waxing is the most effective method of removing unwanted hair in both large and small areas. Hair can be removed with a minimum amount of discomfort. There are two types’ of waxing techniques;

  1. The first and most common method is the hot wax, Most know as the Bee Wax “HARD WAX”: goes on thick smooth and warm, pulling it straight from the root, making it much easier on skin and resulting less pain. The hot wax is the one that we perform the most in this salon. Any area with hair can be safely waxed including the mustache, chin, eyebrow, legs and bikini line.

  1. The second method is the warm wax. We offer warm wax on legs only, which its most know as the roll-on wax removed with strips.

Ingrown Hair

A strand of hair is an outgrowth of dead cells and the protein keratin that grown up from the hair follicle. Each hair shaft grows about ¼ inch per month, depending on what stage of growth—active or resting—the hairs is in. Genetics determine how maybe hair follicles we have since no new follicles are formed after birth. A women’s leg and arms contain an average of 13,500 hair follicles.

Ingrown hair- and annoying consequence of shaving and waxing—when there’s a build of dead, dry skin resulting in pore blockage, when a hair curls in the skin and grows in the wrong direction, resulting in a red, irritated bump that can become infected. Though relaxing the muscles during shaving and waxing is said to help prevent ingrown hair’s they can still happen. Some people recommend plucking the hair using a sharp pointed tweezers and then cleaning the area with peroxide; others say its best to leave ingrown hairs alone to heal themselves.

To help avoid ingrown hairs, start to apply exfoliating scrub during a daily shower after 24 hours waxing, rub your skin vigorously with a towel r exfoliating sponge every time you bathe, finally apply suitable amount of moisturizer to void dry and fell itchy. Generally speaking, you should exfoliate any areas with containing hairs daily. This mainly helps to remove pore blockage. You will get less in- growths and your hair will grow back with ease. Also, try going for a steam baths regularly, scrub then gently with sponge. Continue waxing regularly. Your hair growth will diminish.
